Annual Chinese Teaching Conference
The IOE Confucius Institute Annual Chinese Conference is the largest CPD opportunity of its kind in the UK for teaching professionals in the subject area of Mandarin Chinese and about China.
The 17th Annual Chinese Teaching Conference ‘Looking Back, Thinking Forward’ will take place on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th June 2020 at UCL Institute of Education, University College London.
The 2020 Annual Conference will be the seventeenth year of our popular Chinese teaching and learning conference for schools. It has become a key professional development and networking opportunity each year specifically for teachers of Chinese in the English education system and all other staff involved in learning about China.
Both days offer:
- Keynote speeches from national experts
- CPD workshops
- Exhibition of current teaching materials and resources
- Lively student performances
- Networking opportunities
- Lunch and refreshments
- Excellence Awards
The 2020 Conference workshop topics are:
- Shifting the Paradigm and Increasing Cultural Capital
- Developing pedagogy and research
- Advocacy for our subject
- Mandarin outside the classroom
- Using culture and present-day context to teach language
Our 17th annual conference will see the UCL IOE Confucius Institute examine the idea of “Mandarin for Life”. With an ever-increasing global outlook, and a curriculum emphasis on the global economic and cultural impact of language learning, we ask the teaching community to consider what lifelong skills we are aiming to develop in our Mandarin classrooms, and how we achieve a “Mandarin for Life” attitude in our students and schools.
We invite teacher-led workshop proposals on any topic of interest to the presenter, with preference given to those that focus on the 5 key areas detailed above. To submit a proposal, please complete this Online Form.
