Annual Chinese Teaching Conference

Our 2020 Annual Conference has been cancelled. Please see message below from the IOE Confucius Institute for Schools team from 30th March 2020.

The Annual Chinese Teaching conference scheduled to take place on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th June 2020 at UCL Institute of Education has had to be cancelled.  This is very disappointing, but inevitable, news for us all. However, we are keen to make sure that some key workshops will go ahead online at regular intervals during the summer term. We even hope to have a plenary speaker or two joining the UCL IOE CI online CPD summer programme as well. Whilst we shall miss the chance to get together, there are some advantages in that you won’t have to make that difficult decision about which workshop to attend; you can attend them all (and we hope you will!) We shall be in touch with the full programme in the coming days.

If you are a delegate or exhibitor who has already booked and paid for your place at this year’s conference you will receive a full refund. All booking payments will be refunded in April by BACS to the bank account from where your payment was made. You will be notified of this refund by email from the UCL payments team.

Should you have any questions about the cancellation of this year’s event please contact us at

The IOE Confucius Institute Annual Chinese Conference is the largest CPD opportunity of its kind in the UK for teaching professionals in the subject area of Mandarin Chinese and about China.

In 2019 we hosted our sixteenth Annual Conference, an event that has become a key professional development and networking opportunity specifically for teachers of Chinese in the English education system and all other staff involved in learning about China.

The conference always spans two days (a Friday and Saturday over the same weekend in June) and although the content varies depending on the theme that year, the structure is similar each time:

  • Keynote speeches from national experts
  • CPD workshops
  • Exhibition of current teaching materials and resources (click here for more information)
  • Lively student performances
  • Networking opportunities
  • Lunch and refreshments
  • Excellence Awards
