Primary Teachers follow-up training in November

Primary training NovFor the first three weeks of November, IOE Confucius Institute has organised a series of interactive training courses for primary schools teachers in London, Liverpool and Plymouth.

The two-day training courses focused on a series of subjects:
• Modelling a basic lesson using Likes/dislikes and Going places
• How to construct basic Chinese sentences
• Numbers learning up to 10,000
• Group presentation on how to deliver a basic lesson to children
This training was part of the continuous support to a group of 50 primary teachers who were keen to introduce basic Chinese and Chinese cultural elements across the curriculum in their schools. The participating teachers have done 30 hours of independent study online and attended two and a half days’ introductory training back in July.
Participants were quite enthusiastic about learning more about Chinese language and cultures with experienced trainers who were current teachers of Chinese in schools. Apart from IOE’s in-house expert, James Trapp, we also had trainers including Lily Chen from Our Lady’s Covent School, Zhongyan Cui and Julie Lee who also have extensive experiences about delivering lessons to primary schools pupils.

Feedback from participants:
“Group presentation and lesson modelling session, sharing resources and activity ideas for the classroom are useful. It is an excellent, well-run course with teachers who are passionate about their language and make learning fun and interesting.”
(Charlotte Barr)

“I have really enjoyed the two day course and I feel a sense of achievement of learning Mandarin at a basic level. The listening comprehension with Lily to become confident in speaking and listening is useful. Very well delivered.”
(Laura Cook)

“Useful to have ideas for teaching. Great to have teachers who are currently teaching, teaching us! The enthusiasm of course leader James is completely infectious, makes us inspired!” (Suzie Tidy)
