Literature in your Chinese classroom—学海无涯
There is a new requirement in the National Curriculum for learners to engage with the literature of the target language they are learning. This applies for all Languages at Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3.
Join us on day 2, Saturday 13 June, to hear experts from the University of Leeds, the British Museum and the UCL Institute of Education to talk about this and hopefully to give delegates lots of inspiration and ideas for the new academic year.

Frances Weightman
Frances Weightman is a Senior Lecturer in Chinese Studies, University of Leeds with research interest in Chinese fiction. She is currently running a research project to promote new Chinese writing in the UK (http://writingchinese.leeds.ac.uk/) and working to develop this exciting project for school-age students.

Helen Wang
Helen Wang is Curator of East Asian Money at the British Museum. She is also a literary translator, and has translated a number of short stories and essays, as well as two children’s novels – Bronze and Sunflower by Cao Wenxuan, and Jackal and Wolf by Shen Shixi. Sean McGibney
Sean McGibney co-founded The Chairman’s Bao (www.thechairmansbao.com), an online simplified Chinese newspaper for students of Mandarin in January 2015. Sean started learning Chinese in 2005 when his family moved to Shanghai. He is now a final year student at the University of Leeds, studying towards a degree in Chinese and Spanish. He joins us straight after his final exams and directly before his next big adventure in China.
Sean is both thrilled and honoured to have the opportunity to speak to you about the work they have done so far, as well as some exciting plans for the future!

Fotini Diamantidaki
Fotini Diamantidaki is a Lecturer for the PGCE in Languages at the UCL Institute of Education. She has done a lot of work on how literature can be integrated into the Languages curriculum for European languages, especially in combination with use of the internet and digital technologies.
Fotini is also particularly interested in the integration of world languages into the curriculum and the growth of Mandarin teacher education in England. She has a number of research interests[1] (too many to do justice to them all here) and among her growing interests are cultural and intercultural awareness and understanding in classroom contexts.
Fotini runs the web-resource http://www.panoramalitterature.com (in French), and wrote the book Internet Et Documents Litteraires (also in French).
