The 7th Schools and Universities Day will be run by UCL IOE Confucius Institute for Schools on Tuesday 12th March 2024. It will take place at International Student House (229 Great Portland Street, London, W1W 5PN).
The event is free and is a unique opportunity for school teachers and secondary school learners of Mandarin to meet with Chinese departments from universities across the UK. Through such dialogue, school learners of Mandarin will be able to explore the range of opportunities available and different pathways for them to continue learning Mandarin at university.
Since we started running the Schools and Universities Day, feedback on it has been overwhelmingly positive. It creates space for discussions between students and university representatives and facilitates discussion and connections between teachers and universities.
Programme of the day
Two sessions will take place during the day. School teachers should opt for their preferred session when they register:
- AM Session: 10:00 – 12:15
- PM Session: 13:15 – 15:30
Each session will include:
- Tailored Talks for School Learners
- Cross-sector Secondary-HE Discussion for School and University Colleagues
- University Fair

An invitation email – including registration information – will be sent to Chinese departments. If your department has not received the invitation email by the end of January 2024, please get in touch with us through: Chinesenetworks@ucl.ac.uk
School registration
Registration is now open to school teachers of Chinese at UK secondary schools. Please see the criteria on the registration form – the link to which can be found below – for eligible Year 12 and Year 11 school learners.
Please note:
- Priority will be given to eligible Year 12 students.
- Registration should be done through the online form – the link to which can be found below.
- School teachers should indicate their preferred session (AM or PM) on the registration form.
- Deadline for school registration is Tuesday 27th February 2024. However, registration process may close before the deadline if all the places are filled.
- Confirmation for the number of allocated places for Year 12 students, and the allocated session will be sent to you within 10 working days. Place allocation for Year 11 students and the allocation session will be confirmed at a later date – after the registration deadline.
- Lunch is not provided.
