Last Tuesday, 30 Mandarin teachers attended a teacher training event at UCL IOE, which was focused on how to teach Mandarin grammar to UK school students. This year’s grammar training looked specifically at inductive and deductive approaches to teaching Mandarin grammar to non-native speakers. The IOE CI Director, Katharine Carruthers, delievered sessions on the 了participle and Teacher-Training Coordinator, Philippa Vallely, discussed integrated grammar teaching. All sessions were accompanied by lots of ideas for activities that can be used in the classroom to make grammar learning more fun.
Participants really enjoyed the discussion focus of the training and especially enjoyed the different activities they were asked to create. Below are some of the great things our participants said about the training:
“I most enjoyed the exchange of ideas about classroom activities you can use to introduce grammar points”
“I really enjoyed the interactive learning experience element of the training”
“I felt it was a great opportunity to meet people in this field and regain my passion!”
