Friday 15th and Saturday 16th June, 2018
The UCL online store is open and ready to accept bookings for the 2018 IOE CI Annual Chinese Teaching Conference. This year’s Conference theme will be ‘Thinking globally, acting locally: motivating Mandarin learners around the globe’ which will be explored through a range of workshops, plenaries and performances.

Every year the Conference features workshops focussed on a variety of topics, which are chosen as a result of the direct feedback we receive from Mandarin teachers. The topics for 2018 will include:
Building Bilingualism and creating immersive environments
- New ideas in character teaching
- Primary Teaching (building interest in your school, age-appropriate approaches, working with your secondary school)
- Teacher-led Technology
- Motivating Learners: How do we create and maintain interest?
The workshops are a great way for teachers to immerse themselves in the Mandarin teaching community and get to grips with some of the areas they find most challenging when teaching Chinese.
The plenaries include sessions which will explore bilingualism and feature an academic perspective on the subject, as well as plenaries that focus on one of the most notorious elements of teaching Mandarin: Chinese characters! Included in the plenary sessions are school performances, which are not only great fun but also showcase the talents of young people in the UK learning Mandarin.
