South East Chinese Teaching Network Meeting

Dartford Grammar School

16 members of the UK’s Chinese teaching network came together at Dartford Grammar School (DGS) on Friday 11 October.

The meeting was hosted by Paul Tyskerud, Confucius Classroom Manager and Head of Chinese at Dartford Grammar School. An open invitation had been issued on the e-forum for all those involved in or interested in Chinese teaching from across South East England.

It was an enjoyable, collaborative atmosphere with contributions from all who attended. The meeting covered current Mandarin teaching in primary and secondary schools (Key Stages 1-4). Samples of GCSE controlled assessments were also used for moderation practice.

Highlights included an interesting and informative presentation of the future of Mandarin in primary schools by James Trapp, and a presentation by Natalie Syers and Jonathan Pope of DGS Mandarin teaching resources to accompany the Jìn Bù series.
