The 10th Confucius Institute Conference ‘Cater to New Demand and Push for Integration’ took place last week at the Shanghai Exposition Centre in Shanghai. The conference was co-hosted by Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government. Minister of Education and Vice-Chairman of the Council of Confucius Institute Headquarters Mr. Yuan Guiren chaired the Opening Ceremony and Vice Premier of P.R. China and Madam Liu Yandong Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee delivered the keynote speech.
The two-day event started on the 5th December and hosted a number of activities including a Teaching Resource Exhibition, Art Performance, Directors’ Forums and Presidents’ Forums. Conference delegates participated in in-depth discussions on various topics including the formulation of the next five-year development plan.
UCL IOE Confucius Institute for Schools Director Katharine Carruthers chaired part of the Directors’ Forum ‘Setting up the Chinese Language Curriculum System in Primary and Secondary Schools’ as well as speaking at the Presidents’ Forum ‘Best Practices of Model Confucius Institutes’.
At the Opening Ceremony Katharine was on hand to accept the Confucius Institute Individual Performance Excellence Award on behalf of winner Chris Husbands, Director of the UCL Institute of Education.

A huge congratulations to the team at Rosendale Primary!A total of 2,300 people attended the conference including university presidents and representatives of CIs from 134 countries and regions, envoys from foreign embassies in China, as well as representatives of related Chinese partners and enterprises.
