Launch of a New Professional Learning Programme

With the aim of supporting Mandarin teachers involved in subject leadership and curriculum development within UK schools, we have developed and are delivering a brand new professional learning programme this academic year – Pedagogy Innovation and Implementation Micro-Programme.

This practice-based professional learning programme will support teaching practitioners in innovating their current practice, collaborating with colleagues from their own and other schools, implementing upgraded pedagogies strategically and sustainably, and inspiring teaching practitioners from the wider community of practice. It will enable practitioners to advance their practice and leadership skills, and enhance their career development.

We will address the following:

  1. To explore potential and practicality of integrating language proficiency tests (e.g., HSK) into the school-based MFL (Mandarin) curriculum in the UK?
  2. To reconsider the position of achievement tests (i.e., high-stakes summative assessments) within the curriculum to achieve the following objectives:
  • Promote better-rounded, communication-focused, and robust language proficiency
  • Enrich language use and learning experiences
  • Enhance cognitive capabilities and intercultural competence development
  • Provide more study opportunities and enhance employability
