Kingsford Community School were proud first prize winners of the group performance at the National Mandarin Speaking Competition 2013. Shannon Wright (15), Ngoc Anh Tran (14), Yasmin Gulay (15), Benedict Green (14) and Jabeth Musumba (11) are all thrilled to have taken part against so many brilliant schools in such a prolific event, and to have had their passion for Mandarin learning awarded with an all-expenses-paid nine day visit to Beijing.
Each student was keen to reflect their interests in the more complex reality of Modern China. They worked for many months in excellent collaboration to create a performance based around the issues of internal migration in China and the impact it has on family life. Their passion for Mandarin was evident as each student overwhelmed the audience and judges with their excellent pronunciation and powerful emotional connection with the language.
Kingsford Community School was one of the first schools to become an IOE Confucius Classroom. The IOE CI team congratulate them on their success.
