2023 MEP Song Writing Competition

MEP students from across the country were invited to enter a Mandarin song writing competition at the beginning of 2023, which formed part of the MEP event ‘Journey to the East – A Voyage of Discovery’ on 29th March at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham.

The song writing competition required students to embody the Chinese zodiac animal theme of the Rabbit, which young people could use in different ways in their song writing. Key Stage 3 songs had to include “兔子” [Rabbit] in the lyrics. Meanwhile, Key Stage 4 Songs had to include something about the songwriters’ wish for the Chinese New Year of the Rabbit.

Competition entries were judged by the band Transition and the winning students were invited to perform at the ‘Journey to the East – A Voyage of Discovery’ event. Special mentions were also given at the event for students whose entries were shortlisted by Transition.
