Earlier this month Mandarin Excellence Programme school Alexandra Park School welcomed a visit from Minister of State for School Standards, Nick Gibb MP.
Mr Gibb spent the morning observing a Year 8 Mandarin Excellence Programme class. The students in the class began their Mandarin studies in September 2016 and have been studying under a Mandarin Excellence Programme curriculum of 4 taught hours a week, plus 4 self-study hours. In this time students have already made excellent progress with their Mandarin level, with Mr Gibb noting that students had a “very high standard of Mandarin and huge enthusiasm”.

Speaking later that day in the House of Commons, Mr Gibb said of the Mandarin Excellence Programme, “This programme offers intense study in the language, which is not only personally enriching for students, but it will also give them a significant advantage when they enter the world of work”.
Alexandra Park School, also an IOE Confucius Classroom, has a strong reputation in Mandarin teaching, with all Year 7 students having the opportunity to study Mandarin.
