Didacta: Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language in Primary and Secondary Schools

UBCITomorrow, the IOE CI Director, Katharine Carruthers will deliver teacher training at the University of Basel Confucius Institute, Switzerland. Katharine will deliver training to delegates on the subject of Chinese Language Teaching in Primary & Secondary Schools in England. Her session will be followed by Chinese Language Teaching in Primary & Second Schools in USA, which will be delivered by Lixing (Frank) Tang, who is the Co-Director of Multilingual Multicultural Studies and the Clinical Professor of Foreign Language Education at New York University.

The training, which will take place in the afternoon following a visit to the annual Didacta Tradefair in Basel, will be aimed at delegates who engage primary and secondary school learners in Chinese language. The Basel Confucius Institute was founded in cooperation with East China Normal University and started operating in September 2013 with the goal of providing an insight into different aspects of China.

The training will be supported by Didacta, the world’s largest trade fair for education.The training will encourage links between Confucius Institutes across Europe, increasing the wealth of knowledge and participants available to Confucius Institute trainers.
